Some history of the Lechaim |
“Le’chaim” was officially inaugurated on 19th May 2005. The idea of starting a Kosher restaurant in the Synagogue was suggested by the Community Board and the Jewish Businessman’s Club and was actively supported by M.M. Pewzner, the Chief Rabby of Saint-Petersburg, and M.D. Grubarg, the Community Chairman. All the necessary funds were donated by Jewish Businessman’s Club members. One of the chief sponsors was Evgeny Kargapolov, a Saint-Petersburg enterpreneur. The project was managed by a well-known victualer Alexander Shmidt. “Le’chaim” is a non-profit-making restaurant.
